Rinko Kawauchi

Today,i discovered an extremely talented japanese photographer named Rinko Kawauchi. She was born in Shiga in 1972. She discovered photography during her studies at the Seian Junior College of Art and Design. Later in 2001, she simultaneously released three photography books with Little More Publishing, Utatane(catnap), Hanabi(fireworks), and Hanako, creating an overnight sensation in the photography world. In 2002, she was awarded the prestigious 27th Annual Kimura Ihei Award for her work in Utatane and Hanabi. In 2003, she published 'blue' with Petit Grand Publishing. In 2004, she published 'AILA' with Little More Publishing. Her private exhibitions 'AILA' were held at Little More Gallery and Cohan and Leslie Gallery in New York. She also participated the group exhibition 'Lonely Planet' held at Art Tower Mito. In the same year, Martin Parr included her in the Rencontres internationales de la photographie d'Arles. She recently had a one-person show at the UCR/California Museum of Photography. She has also worked with Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda as the photographer of his film Nobody Knows, which won the award for best actor at the 2004 Cannes International Film Festival. In 2005, 'the eyes, the ears,' and 'Cui Cui' have been published from FOIL publishing. In March, her latest collection 'AILA Cui Cui the eyes, the ears,' was exhibited at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris. Currently, 'Atlante. Rinko Kawauchi' has been showing at Quarter Florence until September 14.

Out of her all series, i was very attracted to the series called 'the eyes, the ears'. I love how all the photographs were taken in such a simplicity way. I love the purity and the innocence of her work.
